Private proxies: what the label means and what you actually get

"Private proxy" is a sales label, not a standard. This page explains what sellers usually mean, how it differs from dedicated and shared proxies, and what RackProxies sells: one customer per IPv4 address, paid in crypto, no KYC.

Quick answer

What are private proxies?

Private proxies are proxies sold to one buyer or a small closed group, as opposed to free public lists. The term has no fixed definition. RackProxies sells dedicated datacenter IPv4 proxies: one customer per IP for 30 days, from $1.29 per IP as of October 2026. No KYC: you pay in crypto (BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC) and log in with an account number.

Is "private proxy" a real technical term?

No. "Private proxy" is a marketing term with no technical standard behind it. Sellers use it to say the proxy is not on a free public list and is sold to paying customers only.

Beyond that, the word can hide very different products. One seller's private proxy is used by a single customer. Another seller's private proxy is shared by a few customers at the same time. A third uses the word for residential IPs that rotate on every request.

Before you buy, look for three plain answers on the product page:

  1. How many customers use the IP at the same time? One, a small fixed number, or an open pool.
  2. For how long is it yours? A fixed term such as 30 days, or until the next rotation.
  3. How is it billed? Per IP, per GB of traffic, or per port.

Private vs dedicated vs shared: what do the labels usually mean?

These are the common meanings in the proxy market. Always check the seller's own wording.

LabelWhat sellers usually meanWho else uses the IP at the same timeUsual billing
Public or free proxyAn open proxy found on a public listAnyone who finds itFree
Shared proxyA paid IP used by several customers at onceOther customers of the same sellerPer IP or per GB, low price
Semi-dedicated proxyA paid IP shared by a small fixed number of customersA few other customers; the seller should state how manyPer IP
Private proxyA paid IP not on public lists; often dedicated, sometimes sharedDepends on the sellerPer IP, per GB or per port

RackProxiesDedicated datacenter IPv4 for 30 daysNo other RackProxies customer during your rentalPer IP: $1.29 for 1, $59.25 for 100

Is a private proxy the same as a dedicated proxy?

Not always. A dedicated proxy is assigned to one customer for a stated term. A private proxy may be dedicated, but the word alone does not promise it.

At RackProxies the two mean the same thing. Dedicated: during your rental, each IP is assigned to your account only and is not shared with other RackProxies customers. The IP is a datacenter address: it belongs to a hosting network, not to a home internet provider, and IP databases label it "hosting". We never present it as a residential or home IP.

The dedicated vs shared comparison puts prices from several providers side by side, dated and sourced.

Are private SOCKS5 proxies different from private HTTP proxies?

No: SOCKS5 and HTTP are protocols, not levels of privacy. A private SOCKS5 proxy is a private proxy that you reach over the SOCKS5 protocol. The same IP can often serve both.

Every RackProxies IP supports HTTP, HTTPS (CONNECT) and SOCKS5. SOCKS5 passes any TCP traffic, so it suits tools that are not web browsers. HTTP and HTTPS (CONNECT) are the simplest choice for web clients and scraping libraries. The SOCKS5 vs HTTP guide shows when to use which.

Does private mean the IP was never used before?

No. An IPv4 address has a history, and "private" says nothing about it. IPv4 free pools ran out years ago, so almost every address in use has been used by someone before. Nobody can honestly promise a clean or never-used IPv4 address.

Common pitfalls when buying private proxies:

  • Shared behind the label. The page says private, but the fine print allows several users per IP.
  • Prior reputation. A site may treat an IP differently because of what a previous holder did with it.
  • "Unlimited" traffic. Almost every seller applies a fair-use policy. Billed per IP for 30 days, not per GB, under a fair-use policy.
  • Location. Datacenter IPs are registered to hosting networks, not to home internet providers. IP geolocation databases can place the same IP in a different city, or even a different country, from the datacenter that announces it.
  • Same IPs after renewal. Each rental lasts 30 days from delivery. Renew from your account before the end date; keeping the same IPs after a rental ends is not guaranteed.

Test each IP before a long job with the datacenter IP check. If an IP does not work or is unusable for a lawful use, write to support: we fix it or replace it with an IP in the same country, subject to stock.

What does RackProxies keep about private proxy users?

A private proxy hides your own IP from the website you open, but the provider still sees the connection. Here is what RackProxies keeps: We do not log the content of your requests, full URLs or page data. For traffic that passes through our systems, we keep connection metadata (time, account, exit IP, target hostname, bytes) for up to 30 days to handle abuse reports and billing disputes, then delete it. We keep your account number, orders, top-up records and rental history while your account is open, and afterwards only as long as accounting rules require. We disclose records to authorities only when the law requires it. Our upstream network provider may keep its own logs under its own policy.

No ID is needed to buy. Account-number login; email is optional. The no-KYC page and the privacy policy give the details.

How much do private proxies cost?

RackProxies charges per IP for 30 days: $1.29 for 1 IP, $12.69 for 10, $33.75 for 50 and $59.25 for 100, as of October 2026. Every country and city costs the same.

For context, dedicated datacenter prices published on 19 October 2026: Webshare sold 20 dedicated proxies for $26.60 a month ($1.33 each), Oxylabs charged $2 per IP up to 15 IPs, and Decodo listed dedicated datacenter IPs from $2.50 per IP. More providers are in the price index. We do not claim to be the cheapest at any volume.

What else do people ask about private proxies?

Are private proxies worth it compared with free proxies?

For any steady job, yes. Free public proxies are open to anyone, change without notice and may log or alter your traffic. A paid private proxy has a known owner, a set term and support. RackProxies starts at $1.29 for one dedicated IP for 30 days, paid in crypto.

Can other customers use my private proxy?

Not at RackProxies. Dedicated: during your rental, each IP is assigned to your account only and is not shared with other RackProxies customers. At other sellers, read the product page: some private plans are shared by a small group. Ask how many users share each IP before you pay.

Are private proxies residential?

Not necessarily, and ours are not. RackProxies private proxies are datacenter IPv4 addresses held by hosting networks. Residential proxies use IPs assigned to home connections and are sold by other providers, usually per GB. The datacenter vs residential comparison explains the trade-off.

Do private proxies keep my browsing private?

Only in part. The website sees the proxy's IP instead of yours, but the proxy provider sees the connection. The section above lists what RackProxies keeps and for how long. Over HTTPS, the page content stays encrypted between you and the site, so the proxy carries it without seeing it.

Can I buy a private SOCKS5 proxy?

Yes. Every RackProxies IP works over HTTP, HTTPS (CONNECT) and SOCKS5, so a private SOCKS5 proxy is any of our plans. The smallest is 1 IP for $1.29. Use the IP, port and credentials from your account in any SOCKS5 client, or allowlist your own IP instead of a password.

Do I need ID to buy private proxies?

No KYC: no ID, no selfie, no documents to sign up, top up or buy. You pay in BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, with a minimum top-up of $25. Your account number is your login: save it somewhere safe. Add an email (optional) if you want a way to recover it. Without an email, a lost account number cannot be recovered.
